While the majority of posts here will be about helping dads become better dads and helping ministry leaders figure out how to help dads become better dads, every once in a while I’ll share a resource that might fall into the category of ‘just for children’s ministry.’
This is one of those posts. If you’re a dad, you can keep reading to see some of the issues that your children or family minister may face and maybe even pick up a copy for them to help them as you team together to raise your children. (I’m giving a copy away, read on!)
Last week, while sitting with a friend in Starbucks (I’m a Caribou man myself) I finished reading Ryan Frank’s book, 9 Things They Didn’t Teach Me in College About Children’s Ministry. Despite the long name, the book is rather short – 9 chapters, 123 pages. It’s a quick read and its size lends itself well to being put in a backpack (or back pocket) and taken with you to read on the go.
Just weeks away from finishing a Children’s & Family Ministry degree at Bethel Seminary, I did learn many of the topics that are covered while I was ‘in college.’ But I think that’s unique. My journey included going to school with a group of people that were already doing ministry and many of these topics were covered in talks outside the classroom…and that’s what I like about this book.
